Subproject 5: Indication

Attention: open in a new window. PrintE-mail

As part of the research group, the COSIP Counseling Concept will be implemented as a service for families with a parent with cancer in the University of Leipzig Center for Women’s and Children’s Medicine. This intervention program is distinguished by standardized framework conditions with flexible settings adjustable to the special needs of the patient, the healthy partner and their children. The interventions are aimed at the family system, the parent subsystem and/or the children or, respectively, the sibling subsystem. There is still little research on in which clinical situations therapy should focus on the family and in which on the children/siblings or only the parents. In addition to the question of indication, the question of how different settings and foci affect intervention processes has not been explored.

Central questions:

  1. What are the decision criteria for clinicians, parents and children in the question of whether intervention should focus primarily on the family’s burden as a whole, that of the child/children/siblings or the parents as couples/individuals?
  2. What are the indication criteria for family-oriented vs. child-oriented vs. parent-oriented settings?
  3. What is the respective impact on the course of the intervention and process when the intervention setting focuses on family, parents or children?
  4. How do certain criteria such as stressors, coping with illness, communication, psychological symptoms, etc. change, depending on intervention?
